The reason for the changes in the last few challenges were because I got very frustrated - with the same few icons winning several categories week after week. I hadn't expected that, hadn't seen that much around and felt like it was my duty a the runner to try and do something about it. The changes were to try and see if that could be changed - to get more diversity among winning icons and makers. The changes themselves I took from other challenges I've observed, to test if they could work here.
I think it's clear, from the few participants in the current challenge (Character Challenge 3 "Leonard "Bones" McCoy", the submit-for-Special-categories system isn't working, but to make it official, here's a poll with that question and a few others to get community consensus on how best to do these things.
[Poll #1550284]
Looking back, I should have consulted the comm first before making the changes, or at least given a heads-up beforehand that I was going to change some things to test them out instead of implementing them immediately. I'm just not used to thinking that way so it didn't really occur to me at first (I'm used running website & figuring things out by myself, not asking opinions from others because usually there's nobody to ask from) but a challenge comm obviously runs by a different set of rules and I'm still learning the ropes. I want to do better, and I'm trying to do better, hence this post and the last.
I'm sorry about the confusion and frustration I caused in the last few weeks! Hopefully this poll clarifies these issues, and makes clear what rules work the best for the community as whole.

Date: 2010-04-12 06:58 pm (UTC)I've been in a lot of pain; the last three weeks have been particularly bad. I have made stupid stuff and errors I'd never have done because of the pain, but it never occurred to me before I read your reply that the way I handle the voting results might be affected!
